Ask me anything

Hello, My name is Caitlin Periou, and I am a law student, animal lover, and foodie!

About a two years ago now, I moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. Since moving here, I have found myself trying every restaurant and bar I can get to (and afford). I decided to start this blog to document my culinary experiences...and remind myself of the bad, the good, and the great food (and drinks) along the way. Being in law school has hindered my posts unfortunately, but I will try and keep you informed of all the amazing eateries I can stick my fork (or chopsticks) into.

Hey guys, I know it’s been forever! A lot has been going on, so my little hobby definitely took a back seat for a while. I’m trying to get behind the fork again and do a little more eating… and blogging!
I got especially inspired after me and the boyfriend went to Bayou Hot Wings. This place is AMAZING. It’s tucked away in a shopping center off of Claiborne. It was started up by two guys, and they were working away when we stopped by to grab a bite. There isn’t much space inside to eat unfortunately. There is some bar style seating, so it wasn’t a problem for the two of us, but perhaps would be difficult for many more people.
These guys had a pretty nice selection on their menu and they even offer frog legs, which you can of course get tossed in any one of their sauces. They seem to work with really fresh ingredients and they only start cooking once you’ve ordered. The wings are HOT when they get placed in front of you. We started with the Onion Rings, where are tossed in a seasoned batter, which was so crunchy and delicious! I wished that the onions were a bit thicker, but I LOVE onion. The boyfriend enjoyed them. I got ten wings, and they were able to split the batch and toss each in a different sauce. I taste tested the Teriyaki (my ultimate favorite) and the Steen’s Cane Honey BBQ. They were both delicious. My boyfriend got the Bayou Sweet. I tasted the sauce. It had all the taste and appear of hot sauce without out the tingling, mouth burning sensation. In case you aren’t quite feeling that at the moment. The sauces aside, the wings were great! The boyfriend commented on how especially flaky, crispy and delicious he found the batter on the wings to be.
The guys who run the place were happy to make friendly banter when we welcomed it and to leave us alone when we were conversing with ourselves. When we left, the boyfriend said, “I’d definitely come back again.” I agree and I had to give these guys some props. Definitely stop by, you won’t regret it.
